King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) announced that it had achieved HIMMS Stage 7 on 16 May 2016, making it one of only a handful of hospitals around the world, which makes it one of only nine hospitals outside North America to be honored with this recognition.
KKESH is a tertiary care ophthalmic facility operated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The hospital provides quality tertiary ophthalmic care to the patients it serves and promotes the delivery of Kingdom-wide ophthalmic care through its outreach, educational, and extensive research programs. For more than three decades, KKESH has been recognized for excellence in its delivery of ophthalmic patient care, for its strong educational and international research programs.
The hospital prides itself in a very high standard of patient care and decided to improve this further by using the latest technology and smart devices. This motivated the conversation around achieving full technical integration, paperless procedures and intelligent analysis of the data. As HIMSS aim to improve quality of care KKESH decided to follow their requirements for stage 7… and so the journey began. Eman Mohammed AlRajeabh, Health Information Systems Manager at KKESH will share their journey to HIMSS stage 7 including why, the considerations, the challenges, and the ultimate benefits.

Eman Mohammed AlRajeabh, is the Health Information Systems Manager at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) and has been with the hospital for 8 years. She has a career history in IT, a batchelor degree in computer science from King Saud University as well as a master degree in health informatics. Eman is responsible for all Health Information project management at KKESH covering the entire project lifecycle. She provides direction for new initiatives, projects and service improvements and has been the HIS project leader for KKESH's journey to HIMSS stage 7.
